Main research activity of Prof. V. Rossi concerns the study of plant pathogens, with particular attention to biological, ecological and epidemiological aspects. These studies are aimed at modeling the relationships between pathogens, host plants, and environmental conditions. Several weather-driven, mechanistic, dynamic models were developed for the main plant diseases including grapevine, small-grain cereals, sugar beet, apples and others. These models have been evaluated under different epidemiological conditions, in different Countries, and are currently applied in disease warning systems for crop protection. Prof. V. Rossi is the founder of the spinoff company Horta srl which develops and delivers to growers web-based decision support system for sustainable crop management. He is Member of the Epidemiology Subject Matter Committee of the International Society for Plant Pathology (ISPP).
