Already thirty years of research experience on disease resistance in cereals and legumes with special interest on durability. This started with a CSIC grant for undergraduate students in 1987, followed by all existing steps in research career till professorship. Focus of first 10 years was on resistance to rusts and powdery mildews in cereals. Then, slowly moved to legumes being identification, characterization and utilization of resistance to a wide range of diseases, including parasitic weeds the major research focus during last 20 years. This lead to a significant scientific production (circa 300 SCI publications, 26 PhDs) and leadership in international projects, all dealing with various aspects of disease resistance in a range of cereal and legumes crops. Research activities paired with direct application leading to release of a number of legume cultivars.
